"Right after graduating from Brown, I started law school at NYU in the fall. Most people seem to take 1-2 years off in between these days, but because of my time doing Mock Trial, I knew that it was what I wanted to do. 1L year is, of course, challenging for everyone, but Brown, especially my work in the history department, prepared me incredibly well for what was to come. Brown history teaches you to read critically, analyze language, and extract the core arguments and ideas from text, which translates directly to one's ability to do the same for an overwhelming number of cases. The focus on critical analysis rather than regurgitation of information helped me apply those cases when exams came around.

My Brown history education is also what has encouraged me to focus on the specific area of law I am interested in pursuing. At Brown, I focused mainly on modern European history and intellectual thought with Professors Omer Bartov and Holly Case. I also conducted historical research on the Illicit Global Economy for Professor Peter Andreas at the Watson School. All of this led me to a passion for International Law. During my 1L year, I did not have much opportunity to explore (contrary to the nature of a Brown student), but I took international law as my elective, conducted research on Peace Building for NYU's Center for Human Rights and Global Justice Prevention Project, and attended many incredible speaking events with experts from around the world. I now have my internship at the United Nations in Geneva, Switzerland, where I am assisting a commissioner at the International Law Commission. This UN body works to codify and progressively develop international law. With the fast recruiting timeline, I also already know my internship for next summer, for which I will be a summer associate at the law firm, Covington and Burling, in Washington DC."
